I can run for a solid full minute!
Whew! I did it! I started week 2 of my Zero to Running Plan with Jenny Hatfield (@CoachJenny), and I ran for several intervals of 1 full minute runs.I was first introduced to Coach Jenny when downloading the PearSports App on my iPhone 5 recently. Wanting to maximize my new treadmill, I decided to go with the Zero to Running Plan (30 minutes, 3 times a week for 10 weeks). I needed to chose something that would work with a treadmill and could build up long term strength. In 2012 I started training for a 5K using the c25K on my iPhone. It was good and I was able to complete it; however, I haven't done any running since completing the Route66 5K in November of 2012. As soon as that race was over, I was done. Now, I am determined to begin a new habit of running and am hopeful that I may learn to enjoy it this time around. The Pear Sports system offers an extra layer of comfort over the c25K app. With the their chest-wrap heart rate monitor and having the program calibrated to my current fitness levels, I'm confident that this system will warn me if I'm pushing it too hard or if I'm not pushing it hard enough.@CoachJenny's program is also very helpful. She's encouraging and instructs me on how to run with good form. Now I know that I must keep my hips directly below the shoulders in order to keep from straining the body incorrectly. She also offers small bits of encouragement and pointers during the workout.Today, I learned that I need to go to a proper fitness shoe store and have my feet fitted, measured and evaluated before purchasing a good pair of running shoes. In addition, she recently encouraged me to not compare my fitness level to others (the hardest thing in the world!) but to just learn how to listen to my body and know how I'm progressing in the program. And if I feel it's pushing me too hard, then to repeat past workouts and continue working on building my strength and endurance.I can't say enough about my new fitness program! I am looking forward to seeing results physically, mentally and emotionally. Now I've got to start working on those eating habits of mine...
